Our Bowls team qualified for the State finals on April 24th. However, after travelling all the way to Melbourne the final was postponed due to rain just before 9.00am. The re-scheduled final was held on Thursday 3rd May. The teams arrived early in anticipation of another wet day. We began the State finals against Crusoe College and played 3 ends before the torrential rain again resulted in the cancellation of the final. However, on this occasion the indoor venue at Brighton was secured and we all travelled down the Nepean Highway to re-commence. The girls played on carpet with some long ends. This was not the ideal scenario for us given our experience on the grass surface of Wodonga and Wangaratta.
Whilst we won 3 ends against Crusoe they proved too strong on the other ends winning the encounter 12-3. The next match was played against McKinnon SC. The team lined up with Kelli Evans as Lead. This time we were able to adjust to the indoor conditions and won the match by 8 -7. The third match of the round-robin was against Balwyn HS. A win here would put us into the cross-over semi-finals. We began very well and led 6-2. Balwyn‟s consistency was rewarded with them equalling us at 6 - all with one end to play. It came down to a matter of centimetres and our last bowl of the match was just a bit further away from the jack than the oppositions. Congratulations to our team who performed with great sportsmanship and always supported each other. We all enjoyed a great time representing Wodonga Senior SC. The overall winner on the day wasBacchus Marsh after they defeated Balwyn 16-5.
