On Monday the Octover 17, the College State Athletics team travelled to Melbourne. This year the team consisted of 8 students including a relay team. Caitlyn Regan and Onto Le Breton both competed in the 3km event first. Caitlyn cruised along at her own pace finishing in 10th with a time of 12.51 minutes. Onto’s run was impressive, coming from the back of the pack in the last few laps to finish 6th with a time of 9.38 minutes. Blayke St John competed in the high jump and was knocked out at a height of 1.90m with his best jump at 1.85 metres. Although it wasn’t his personal best, Blayke finished an equal 3rd place.
Caitlyn, Onto and Anthea were all in the 1500 metre race. For Anthea’s first time at State Athletics, she ran to her best ability finishing in 14th. Caitlyn finished the race with a time of 5.50 minutes, placing 10th in her age group. Onto started again from the back of the pack and worked his way towards the front, crossing the line in 9th. His time was 4:34 minutes, a second off his personal best. The under 16 girls relay team consisted of Chloe Butters, Tayla Sjogren, Zoe Chapman and Jovana Bukvic. After a false start from another school, the race was underway with Chloe running first off. It was a strong and quick run by Chloe to put WSSC equal first and lead for the race. Tayla continued, keeping us in around third position as Zoe took off and clearly kept us up in 3rd position. After a slight mishap in the last changeover which cost us our position, Jovana brought us home to finish in 6th place. Congratulations to the team on the efforts.
