Earlier this term, one of our dedicated student athletes, Hitanshu Pillay, took to the track at Lakesside Stadium in Melbourne and came away with an incredible achievement, finishing third in the 1500m at the Victorian All Schools Athletics Championships.

This incredible result speaks to Hitanshu’s determination, discipline, and genuine passion for the sport. “I only started getting into running properly last year,” he explained. “But for this specific race, I trained for about a month or two, really focusing on eating right, sleeping well, and staying in the right mindset.”
The competition was fierce, with athletes from every corner of Victoria, including Melbourne’s top runners. “The athlete who came first was almost at national qualifying pace, finishing under 4 minutes 10 seconds,” explained Hitanshu. “I finished in 4 minutes 18 seconds, which was a new personal best and only 10 seconds off that qualifying time.”
The road to the state event involved several stages; winning through school athletics, Upper Hume, and regional levels before making it to the final round.
Outside of running, Hitanshu also plays soccer and has plans to join Athletics Albury this summer. Looking ahead, he’s eager to keep pursuing athletics, even hoping for a scholarship to help him balance sport and study.
With such strong dedication and a clear passion for athletics, this standout performance is a fitting end to their school sporting journey. As they prepare to graduate, we wish them every success in their future pursuits, on and off the track.
