Recently our Year 10 Wodonga Senior Secondary College student Ryder Stephenson took the initiative to look for his own employer for a SBAT opportunity after his previous SBAT employer was unable to continue employing him. No easy feat for a young person which has earnt him wide recognition.

Ryder used his connections and met with Jared from JC Butko Engineering sharing his previous Engineering SBAT work history which gave Jared a great insight into his work ethic and skills. Then working with Shane Crispin Head Start SBAT Coordinator, Renae at WSSC Careers , Jess Klippel from BUSY At Work Apprenticeships he has since been able to become part of the professional team at JC Butko Engineering via a Head Start School Based Apprenticeship.
Ryder is currently working one day a week with the JC Butko Engineering team on their many projects. Ryder said he enjoys the variety of different work and working with the team. Wodonga TAFE is where Ryder is going to be studying the Certificate III Engineering qualification very soon. Jared from JC Butko said Its great to have such a keen young man to get experience in the industry and see them get started on their path. Jess Klippel from BUSY At Work Apprenticeships said It is fantastic to work with Wodonga Senior Secondary College and the Head Start program as it’s an awesome way to introduce the next generation to these opportunities.
Congratulations Ryder on using your initiative utilising your personal connections in taking on this pathway and we thank Jared, the JC Butko Engineering team, BUSY At Work , the Head Start SBAT Program and WSSC Staff for providing these exciting opportunities for our young people. A extra big thank you to Ryder’s family for their wonderful engagement and support.
