{"id":26598,"date":"2016-11-30T19:02:48","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T08:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/?p=26598"},"modified":"2018-11-15T09:30:39","modified_gmt":"2018-11-14T22:30:39","slug":"scholars-in-the-making","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/?p=26598","title":{"rendered":"Scholars in the Making"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Students Abbey Muller and Joel Johnston have successfully gained positions in the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program with the University of Melbourne.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The program will see the Year 11 students learn about university life, whilst studying at the College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-26600\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/KLDProgram1-1024x543.jpg\" alt=\"KLDProgram1\" width=\"547\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/KLDProgram1-1024x543.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/KLDProgram1-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 547px) 100vw, 547px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBy being exposed to university life and the culture whilst at high school takes away some of the unknown for us\u201d said Abbey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Students will have the opportunity to attend VCE revision lectures, immersion days and overnight stays at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus as part of the program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Youth Scholars program now involves 500 schools, with students being selected to participate in the program based on their academic merit and leadership potential which they have demonstrated in the College Graduate Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Year 11 student Abbey said \u201cI look forward to participating in the program and being able to advance my skills\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The first introduction to the program for the students will be on Tuesday December 6<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-26602\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/KLDProgram2-1024x567.jpg\" alt=\"KLDProgram2\" width=\"531\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/KLDProgram2-1024x567.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/KLDProgram2-300x166.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe program will pair me up with university students that have similar interests\u201d said Abbey<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The two wish to further their studies at university once they complete their VCE at the College.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students Abbey Muller and Joel Johnston have successfully gained positions in the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program with the University of Melbourne.
