{"id":29233,"date":"2019-04-29T16:30:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T06:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/?p=29233"},"modified":"2019-04-29T16:30:17","modified_gmt":"2019-04-29T06:30:17","slug":"anzac-day-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/?p=29233","title":{"rendered":"ANZAC Day 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our first combined college ANZAC day ceremony was a huge success, thanks to the wonderful support of all the staff across the four schools, Fruit Fly Circus School, Huon and Felltimber Middle Years College and Wodonga Senior Secondary College.<\/p>\n<p>Our theme this year was \u2018Coming Home\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>WSSC College Seonaid Lee, Wanamurra House Captain Teaghan Keen and Felltimber Captain Brodie Barker emceed the service. Huon Captain Tye Fuller gave the acknowledgement to Country. Felltimber Captain Imogen Anderson and Huon Captain Rose Delarue gave the ANZAC Requiem. Chelsea Barton WSSC Captain gave a reading from Ataturk\u2019s speech, and Zac Spalding from Felltimber performed Vance Joy\u2019s song \u2018Coming Home\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-29242\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_9706-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_9706-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_9706-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wssc.vic.edu.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_9706-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Students from across the Senior and Middle Years Colleges came together to pay their respects at the 2019 ANZAC Day Commemoration<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Colonel Duncan Polich of the Australian Army gave a challenging address where he encouraged young people to visualise themselves as a service person away from home, where your daily task is surviving and relying on your mates, not seeing family and friends for a long time. He asked them to think about What it would be like to come home? For himself he said it was not coming home, but in BEING HOME which gave him great comfort.
