Executive Officer

Responsible to: Wodonga Government Schools Board

Key Accountabilities for the Executive Officer

The Executive Officer works on behalf of the Wodonga Government Schools Federation comprising the following Schools, Baranduda Primary School, Belvoir Special School, Melrose Primary School, Wodonga Middle years College, Wodonga Primary School Wodonga Senior Secondary College, Wodonga South Primary School and Wodonga West Primary school.  The Executive Officer is employed by Wodonga Senior Secondary College and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the partner schools to form a Wodonga Government Schools Board.

The Executive Officer has frequent contact with Principals, Assistant Principals, School Council Presidents, Senior Education Department Officers, Wodonga Education Community. This is a new and ground breaking position and will present a opportunity and challenge to the successful applicant

The Executive Officer is responsible for the following tasks which will be prioritised by the Board

  • To develop a business plan to demonstrate the value of a properly constituted Wodonga Government Schools Board which leads to further improvement in student achievement, engagement and wellbeing across the City of Wodonga.
  • To further develop the procedures, protocols and processes to enable effective collaboration within and across the partner schools maximising opportunities for all students.
  • Lead the development and coordination of strategies to create strong links to local organisations and businesses in the Albury Wodonga area.
  • Develop promotional material to inform the school communities and the broader community in general of the events linked to the Wodonga Government Schools Federation
  • Lead the development of strategic relationships with the City of Wodonga council to promote an area wide approach to highlight Government Education.
  • Lead the development, management and coordination of appropriate strategies to develop strong links with all levels of government and other education organisations such as Latrobe University, Wodonga TAFE and other post -secondary providers.
  • To identify, secure and maximise external funding opportunities to support the implementation of the goals of the Wodonga Government Schools Federation Strategic Plan.
  • To manage purchasing contracts on behalf of member schools where there will be a direct cost advantage to all partners.
  • To produce reports as required by the Wodonga Government Schools Federation
  • Assist others within the Federation to facilitate and assist in the following activities:

o    work on Teaching and Learning including analysing relevant student data. This will include sharing learning about pedagogical models, collaboration across the schools and to further develop learning opportunities.

o    coordination of the High Potential Learners Taskforce and STEM Taskforce to develop appropriate strategies to meet the needs of high achieving learners in our schools.

o    strengthen and develop the professional learning networks of teachers and Educational support Staff.

o    strengthen and develop networks relating to intercultural issues focusing on indigenous students and those from newer communities.

Time commitment

In addition to normal work day commitments, the successful applicant will be required to participate and attend School Council meetings of member schools to provide a report and seek feedback. Council meetings are generally held in the evenings twice a term.

Selection criteria

The Executive Officer and or company will need to demonstrate :

  • A strong understanding and commitment to government education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A demonstrated capacity to “present” in meetings and to speak about the Federation in public
  • Highly developed interpersonal, negotiating and problem solving skills
  • High level ability to prepare submissions, applications, reports etc. and meet deadlines, deliver what is promised and demonstrate a positive attitude and optimistic approach to tasks;
  • A capacity to work as a member of a team and treat colleagues with trust and respect;
  • Strong organisational skills and a demonstrated capacity to initiate and manage project work. A “self-starter” who believes passionately in a cause.
  • A capacity to manage their own time and the available resources efficiently and effectively
  • An understanding of strategic and financial management
