On Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending the Lions Youth Award presentations held at the Commercial Club, Albury. Year 11 student Atosha Birongo was a finalist on the evening, reaching this level after firstly submitting an extensive written application, she was then invited to a panel interview on Sunday. There were five chosen finalist from the Albury/Wodonga area in total. On the evening the students were asked to speak about the two prompts that they were provided, speaking for two minutes on each topic.

Later in the evening, each finalist’s presented a five-minute speech on a chosen topic. Atosha’s speech was absolutely amazing, here weren’t many dry eyes in the room. Atosha spoke about her life in the Congo, the war and the impact it had on her family, her education and friends in Kenya. Although Atosha was not a prize winner, she certainly received the most congratulations from audience members. Well done Atosha.
