Last week our College held a football carnival involving 3 schools and 100 students from years 4, 5 & 6 from our region. The carnival was run by our VET AFL students in conjunction with AFL Victoria. Students organised and umpired the games and also helped coach and support the players whilst on the field. The aim of the day was for the players to have fun rather than win.

As part of the course students need to umpire and organise events like this, having the support of AFL Victoria is a great help for the students. Jeff and Kade helped students understand the rules and gave strategies on how to deal with players during the game.

Our students found the event to be a great experience and can now appreciate what it is like on the other side of the whistle, with students dealing with on field conflict, dispute on calls and had to engage some students into the games.
