As we are well into Term 3 it is essential that we convey some important information to parents/guardians of Year 12 students. Term 3 is a “make or break” term. Students should be working hard to ensure that they meet their goals. It is important that all students are thinking about what they want to do once they leave school. A large amount of Graduate Program time is spent on advising students how to apply for further study and how to apply for scholarships.

The end of the Year 12 academic year is fast approaching. The following is information pertaining to VCE exams, the last days of class and the Valedictory Presentation Ceremony.

VCE Trial Exams

Each student who is completing VCE is required to attend two rounds of practice exams at school, as per the dates below. The timetable for exams has been made and provided to students via email and through assemblies. Expectations for the exams have been communicated and need to be followed. Students may wear casual clothing for both rounds of trial exams, and VCE and VET classes are cancelled for the first week in September (therefore students are only required to attend for the exams they have scheduled).

First round of trial exams: Monday 2nd September to Friday 6th September
Second round of trial exams: Monday 30th September to Friday 4th October (second week of school holidays)

Completion of VCAL

VCAL students who have finished all their coursework satisfactorily will not be required back at school once their course is completed. They can attend the final assembly on the 23rd October and Valedictory on the 25th October. Students are required to get results and signatures from subject teachers before they can finish classes/school early. You will be notified if your child has requested this process. Those students still working toward completion are required to attend classes until they obtain satisfactory completion.

Last Day of Year 12 – Wednesday 23rd October

Wednesday 23rd October will be the last day of required attendance at Wodonga Senior Secondary College for the Year 12 class of 2019. Arrangements for the day are as follows:

Period 1: Formal whole school assembly, followed by Year 12 assembly, in Galvin Hall.
Year 12 students are to be seated in the centre of Galvin Hall before 8.55am. Late arrivals will not be admitted. Students must be in full, non-altered, school uniform and in a fit state to attend school. This will be followed by an assembly run by the Year 12s. At the completion of the Year 12 only assembly, the students will be required to clean and pack up Galvin Hall ready for use by PE classes period 3.

Lunchtime, Period 3 and 4: No classes.
Students are to leave the College and go home at the completion of the assemblies. Students who wish to remain at school to study may do so in the Year 12 Study Centre. Students not doing this will be asked to go home.
While it is a time for celebration at the conclusion of your child’s studies prior to their examinations, we would like to take this opportunity to reinforce the College’s expectations regarding behaviour and conduct on this day. Students are reminded that all normal school expectations and policies need to be adhered to. These can be viewed on the College website.
Any student who does not adhere to clearly defined College behaviour policies, or fails to follow the directions of any staff member during the day, will be asked to leave the school grounds immediately and may incur further consequences, such as:

  1. Being banned from the Year 12 Valedictory Ceremony
  2. Having to sit the exams in a venue other than WSSC

Valedictory – Friday 25th October

On Friday 25th October at 6.30pm the College will be holding its Year 12 Valedictory Ceremony at the Albury Entertainment Centre. This will be a celebration of the Class of 2019 and will acknowledge Year 12 students who have undertaken VCE or VCAL. All current Year 12 students are invited. You will have received further information regarding ticketing via SMS, Facebook, and a letter brought home by your child.

Final VCE Exams – Friday 25th October until Wednesday 20th November

All students completing VCE are expected to sit their final VCE exams and there will be no exam exemption process offered in 2019, as supported by VCAA. Students who complete their exams have a higher chance of success in the years immediately following Year 12 than those who do not. This includes having a greater chance of obtaining sustainable full time work and apprenticeships, as well as tertiary education placements.

Students will be welcome at the College to access help from their teachers, to access required school resources and to study in the Study Centre during this time. It is advisable that they remain in contact with their teachers and check their College email on a daily basis so that they do not miss any important information or advice.

Careers Support

Our Careers team will be available right up until the 20th December for students to access post-schooling careers and tertiary advice and assistance. If at any stage you feel your child would benefit from a careers and pathways conversation, please direct them to our Careers team.

If you have any questions regarding any of the events above, please do not hesitate to contact Brydie Hind, Matt Moylan or Mark Smit at the College on (02) 6043 7500.
