Dear Students and Families,

The annual Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) General Achievement Test (GAT) for all students undertaking a Unit 3&4 VCE or scored VET subject will be held on Thursday 15th June.

Wodonga Senior Secondary College always strives to continuously improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students as they move into adulthood. From 2022 the VCAA implemented the new literacy and numeracy test which all Year 12 students will be required to sit as part of VCE and VCE VM. As such, this year we will hold a Trial GAT on the same day for all year 11 students (year 11 students studying a Unit 3&4 subject will be required to sit the VCAA GAT with the Year 12s).

  • The Trial GAT & The GAT is split into two sections:
    • Section A: 9.00am – 11.15am – will assess literacy and numeracy skills
    • Section B: 1.15pm – 3.00pm – will assess skills in Mathematics, Science, Technology, The Arts, and Humanities, with an increased focus on critical and creative thinking skills
  • The Trial GAT will be held in the Stadium
  • Students need to bring with them- their student ID, calculator, a dictionary without a thesaurus, clear pencil case containing pens, pencil and eraser (no whiteout)
  • CLEAR drink bottle with water- no labels or frosting
  • Bags, food, phones, smart watches, earphones and any other electrical device must be left in your locker
  • Students can wear suitable casual clothing
  • Students will have access to the canteen for something to eat during the break

We have an experienced VCAA GAT marker providing us independent feedback on the student writing tasks. The writing results will be used in conferencing with students in their English classes.

Your child matters and so does your support. We want to help build exam stamina over the years they are with us to achieve the best outcomes for your child and to ensure they have the best opportunity to satisfactorily undertake the new literacy and numeracy test. The results your child achieve from the Trial GAT will continue to inform our work around literacy and numeracy interventions for all students, including high ability students.

In summary:

  • Trial GAT: Thursday 15th of June
  • Unit 3&4 VCE/VET students will sit the VCAA GAT at school
  • All Year 11 students not sitting the VCAA GAT will complete Trial GAT in the Stadium from 9am
