Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am contacting you to let you know about a valuable opportunity for Year 12 students to attend SWOT (Study Without Teaching) week at the University of Melbourne in the upcoming school holidays. Proudly sponsored by the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS), SWOT Week is a not-for-profit VCE revision program where high-achieving past graduates provide quality VCE revision to high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

For students who wish to attend, the school will cover the cost of registration and transport (V/L line ticket) to and from Melbourne. If needed, the school can also provide financial assistance for accommodation (up to a maximum of $120 per night). Parents/guardians who have a government issued Health Care or Pension card and who wish to accompany their child can also receive financial assistance.

Details are as follows:

Date: 25th September – 29th September

Time:The exact timetable will be provided when registration opens on the 28th August

Location:The University of Melbourne, Parkville Campus. The location of the specific building will be provided closer to the event.

Over the entire week, different subjects will be running comprehensive 90-120 minute workshops based on the VCAA Unit 3&4 curriculum.

Subjects offered at Units 3&4:Biology, Chemistry, English, Further Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Physics, Psychology, Specialist Mathematics, Legal Studies, Chinese, Italian, German and Japanese.

How can students register for SWOT Week:

  1. Students should email me (sleary@wssc.vic.edu.au) to register their interest in attending.
  2. Once I’ve received the timetable of the event from SWOT, I will contact these students to let them know the exact dates/times of the revision lectures, and request that they email me to confirm what lecture/s they will be attending; whether they will be attending alone or accompanied by a parent/guardian; how they will be travelling to Melbourne; and, if accommodation is required, the details of the accommodation provider.
  3. I will register the students with SWOT and make the accommodation booking. The school will cover the accommodation costs up to $120 per night. If the accommodation is more than $120 per night, the school will invoice the Parent/Guardian for the balance.

SWOT Week is a valuable opportunity for students to receive guidance from the state’s top VCE graduates. I urge you to encourage your child to take advantage of the program.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

Sam Leary
VCE Revision & Study Club Coordinator
