Recently, Year 10 Wodonga Senior Secondary College students Heritier (Harry) Nguvu Espoir and Bigendo Wa Mzinga participated in a work experience placement with the Jacob Group in Wodonga. Supported by the WSSC Careers team, both students showed a strong interest in completing their placement with Jacob Group, as it closely aligned with their career interests and future pathways.

Following the success of their work experience—where they demonstrated impressive practical skills, a strong work ethic, and genuine enthusiasm Harry and Bigendo have since taken the next step into School Based Apprenticeships through the Head Start SBAT program, working closely with Shane Crispin, Head Start SBAT Coordinator at WSSC. They are now proud members of the Jacob Group team.
Harry, now in Year 11, is working two days per week at Jacob Group Tinta Car and will be studying a Certificate II in Automotive Body Repair Technology (Tinting) with Kangan Batman TAFE. Bigendo will also be working two days per week with Jacob Body and Paint while undertaking a Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair with GOTAFE. Both students will continue to complete their VET studies alongside their schooling at WSSC over the coming years earning an income while gaining valuable, real-world specialised workplace skills.
What makes Harry and Bigendo’s achievements even more impressive is that both students have had to navigate the additional challenge of learning English as a second language. Their determination, resilience, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones highlight their strong commitment to building a successful future , being role models for our school and the wider community.
We are incredibly proud of Harry and Bigendo for pursuing highly specialised industry qualifications and commend their positive attitude and persistence. A huge thank you to Nada , Rodney and the entire Jacob Group team for providing such a supportive and progressive workplace for Harry, Bigendo, and other students undertaking work experience. Special thanks also to Garry, Renea, Nelson, and Grace from WSSC, as well as their families, Jess Klippel from BUSY At Work Apprenticeships for the outstanding support they have and continue to provide these talented young people.
